Glutathione is the body's master antioxidant, central to detoxification, immune function and oxidative-stress research. Supplied lyophilized for stability.
Glutathione is a tripeptide — glutamate, cysteine and glycine — and the most abundant intracellular antioxidant in mammalian cells. Its function depends on the thiol group of its cysteine residue, which donates electrons to neutralise reactive oxygen species.
Unusually among peptides, its bond structure is atypical: the glutamate is joined through its side-chain carboxyl rather than the usual alpha-carboxyl, which makes it resistant to most peptidases and contributes to its intracellular stability.
Supplied as lyophilized powder for laboratory research. Not for human consumption.
Glutathione cycles between reduced (GSH) and oxidised (GSSG) forms. The ratio between them is one of the standard measures of cellular oxidative state and is used as an endpoint across a very wide range of studies.
Glutathione S-transferases conjugate glutathione to electrophilic compounds, making them water-soluble for excretion. This is a principal route by which cells handle xenobiotics and reactive metabolites.
Glutathione peroxidases use it as the reducing substrate to break down hydrogen peroxide and lipid peroxides, forming one of the main enzymatic defences against oxidative damage.
Cellular glutathione is limited chiefly by cysteine availability, which is why much of the applied literature concerns precursor supply rather than glutathione administration itself.
Glutathione is studied extensively across biochemistry and cell biology. Material supplied here is a research reagent, not an approved medicine.
Concentration is set by the volume of diluent added. For a 1500mg vial, 5mL of bacteriostatic water yields 300mg/mL. Calculate the working concentration your protocol requires rather than following a generic figure.
| State | Temperature | Practical shelf life |
|---|---|---|
| Lyophilized, sealed | −20 °C | 24+ months |
| Lyophilized, sealed | 2–8 °C | ~12 months |
| Lyophilized, sealed | Room temperature | Weeks — transit only |
| Reconstituted, bacteriostatic water | 2–8 °C | ~3–4 weeks |
| Reconstituted, sterile water | 2–8 °C | Same session |
Lyophilized peptide is stable enough to survive shipping at ambient temperature, which is why cold-chain courier service is not required for transit. Long-term storage is a different matter — material intended to be held for months belongs in a freezer.
Protect from light, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Each cycle causes measurable degradation, so dividing a reconstituted stock into single-use aliquots before freezing is preferable to thawing and refreezing one vial repeatedly.
Every lot is tested by an independent laboratory using two orthogonal methods. HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) establishes purity as a percentage of total peptide content, separating the target compound from truncated sequences and synthesis by-products. LC-MS (liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry) confirms molecular identity by mass.
Both matter. Purity alone is insufficient — a 99% pure sample of the wrong compound is still the wrong compound. Together the two tests establish identity and quality, which is why Glutathione is released only after both pass.
The certificate of analysis references the lot number printed on your vial label. Request the COA for your lot at [email protected].
