About 5-Amino-1MQ 10mg

5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small-molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), not a peptide. NNMT methylates nicotinamide, diverting it away from the salvage pathway that would otherwise regenerate NAD+.

The research rationale is indirect: by inhibiting the enzyme that consumes nicotinamide, more substrate remains available for NAD+ synthesis. This links 5-Amino-1MQ to the same cellular energy and longevity questions as direct NAD+ supplementation, but through a different mechanism.

Supplied for laboratory research use only. Not for human consumption.

Research background

NNMT inhibition

NNMT is expressed at high levels in adipose tissue and liver. Inhibiting it has been examined as a way to shift nicotinamide flux toward NAD+ regeneration rather than methylated waste products.

Adipocyte metabolism

Much of the published work concerns adipose tissue specifically, examining cellular energy expenditure and lipid handling in adipocyte culture and in animal models with elevated NNMT expression.

Relationship to NAD+ research

5-Amino-1MQ approaches NAD+ availability from the opposite direction to supplementation — reducing consumption of a precursor rather than supplying more of the end product. Comparative work examines both strategies.

Methylation balance

Because NNMT consumes S-adenosylmethionine as its methyl donor, its inhibition also affects cellular methylation balance, a secondary line of investigation.

The literature is preclinical — cell culture and animal models. 5-Amino-1MQ is not an approved drug and has no approved human use.

Reconstitution

  1. Equilibrate firstAllow the vial to reach room temperature before opening. Introducing solvent into a cold vial promotes condensation, which affects both concentration accuracy and stability.
  2. Select the diluentBacteriostatic water — sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol — is standard where the solution will be held for more than a few days. Plain sterile water is appropriate only for single-session use with no storage.
  3. Add slowly, down the wallDirect the solvent against the inner wall of the vial rather than onto the powder. A stream striking the lyophilized cake causes localized shear that can denature peptide chains.
  4. Do not shakeSwirl gently, or simply let the vial stand. Agitation introduces air and mechanical stress, and both degrade peptides. Full dissolution usually takes a minute or two.
  5. Inspect before useA correctly reconstituted solution is clear and colourless. Cloudiness, visible particulate or discolouration indicates a problem with the material or the diluent.

Concentration is set by the volume of diluent added. For a 50mg vial, 5mL of bacteriostatic water yields 10mg/mL. Calculate the working concentration your protocol requires rather than following a generic figure.

Storage and stability

StateTemperaturePractical shelf life
Lyophilized, sealed−20 °C24+ months
Lyophilized, sealed2–8 °C~12 months
Lyophilized, sealedRoom temperatureWeeks — transit only
Reconstituted, bacteriostatic water2–8 °C~3–4 weeks
Reconstituted, sterile water2–8 °CSame session

Lyophilized peptide is stable enough to survive shipping at ambient temperature, which is why cold-chain courier service is not required for transit. Long-term storage is a different matter — material intended to be held for months belongs in a freezer.

Protect from light, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Each cycle causes measurable degradation, so dividing a reconstituted stock into single-use aliquots before freezing is preferable to thawing and refreezing one vial repeatedly.

Purity and verification

Every lot is tested by an independent laboratory using two orthogonal methods. HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) establishes purity as a percentage of total peptide content, separating the target compound from truncated sequences and synthesis by-products. LC-MS (liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry) confirms molecular identity by mass.

Both matter. Purity alone is insufficient — a 99% pure sample of the wrong compound is still the wrong compound. Together the two tests establish identity and quality, which is why 5-Amino-1MQ is released only after both pass.

The certificate of analysis references the lot number printed on your vial label. Request the COA for your lot at [email protected].

Frequently asked questions

Is 5-Amino-1MQ a peptide?
No. It is a small-molecule quinolinium compound. It is catalogued alongside research peptides because it is studied in the same NAD+ and metabolic research contexts, but structurally it is unrelated.
How does it relate to NAD+?
Indirectly. It inhibits NNMT, the enzyme that methylates nicotinamide. Less methylation means more nicotinamide remains available for the salvage pathway that regenerates NAD+. It raises NAD+ availability by reducing precursor loss rather than by supplying NAD+ directly.
How is it supplied?
As lyophilized powder in sealed vials, reconstituted the same way as the peptides in this catalogue.
Does this need refrigerated shipping?
No. Lyophilized peptide is stable at ambient temperature for the duration of transit, which is why cold-chain shipping is unnecessary. Refrigerate or freeze on arrival for longer-term storage.
Is a certificate of analysis available?
Yes, per lot. The COA corresponds to the lot number printed on your vial. Email [email protected] with that lot number and we will send it.
Is 5-Amino-1MQ approved for human use?
No. 5-Amino-1MQ has not been approved for human use in this form and is supplied for laboratory research use only. It is not for human consumption.
